Dateline 2nd October 2012
IFAW have organised a four day workshop in Dubai from October 9 - 11 - "Shark Conservation in Arabia".
SCS was one of the first organisations to carry out meaningful shark research in the Gulf and to start voicing concerns over probable depletion in many species, and so regards the workshop as a very positive step. Planning for the SCS Kuwait shark research expedition started in 2006, the expedition went ahead in 2008, and was followed by expeditions in Qatar (2009/10) and Bahrain 2012. The Society has been a strong voice for effective shark conservation measures in the Gulf for six years and so is delighted that others are now acting to take this forward.
