Gulf Shark Awareness
Dateline: 5th October 2012.
The Shark Conservation Society notes another positive move towards sustainable fisheries and shark conservation in the Gulf. It was recently announced that the Elasmobranch Protection Group UAE will be formed and will hold its first meeting in Dubai on August 1st. This meeting will be to discuss new measures to stave off further declines in Gulf shark populations and follows an IFAW workshop being conducted in Dubai this year.
SCS has been promoting awareness of declines in Gulf shark populations for many years, and is delighted that this awareness is resulting in positive steps being taken towards shark and ray conservation.
