Richard visited Doha in late October and significant progress was made in moving this expedition forward. The expected dates are now April 10 - 29. Volunteers will arrive in Doha on the 10th, Saturday 11th will be a work up day, and 12 - 28 inclusive will be working days, with the 29 being a clear up/pack up day.
We expect to be working with both the Qatar Coastguards and the University, and detailed planning, logistics preparation, and sponsorship talks are now under way.
There will be twelve volunteer places available which will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Volunteers can apply from now and should bear in mind the following.
1. Only SCS members will be eligible, so if you are not a member and want to apply, join now.
2. As for Kuwait we expect the major costs of vessel charter, and shore accommodation to be met from local Qatari sources. This means volunteers will only have to fund their airfares, food and drink, pocket money, and the admin. contribution fee. The admin. contribution will have to be slightly higher than Kuwait at £275.00 (half of this £137.50) must be paid once you have secured your place and the other 50% before March 15 2009.
As for Kuwait we expect to work both in the markets and at sea, and will be 24 hour chumming in both the area of the rigs (flare off's) and in the shallows.
Volunteers who have not been on previous SCS expeditions will be interviewed prior to acceptance which can be arranged by calling Richard, Jacqui or Denise on the SCS office no. 0044 (0) 1288 352608
