Dateline: September 26th 2010.

On September 26th Richard Peirce met with officials from the Bahrain government Public Committee for the Protection of Marine Resources, Environment and Wildlife. Dr Adel al Zayani, Sheikh Khalifa al Khalifa, Mr Anwar Harriri, and Mr Abdulqader Saeed Khamis were present at the meeting during which Doctor Adel indicated that he believed the Bahrain government would pass a decree giving complete protection to the Green Sawfish (Pristis zijsron).

SCS suggested protection for the Green Sawfish to the government at Qatar following their expeditions in 2009. The Qatar government passed a decree in March 2010 and when Bahrain puts similar measures into effect the Arabian side of the central Gulf will be moving towards a protected safe haven for these highly threatened animals.
