Sixgill Bycatch Off Cornwall

Dateline 13th August 2012

The Trust has received reports of approximately 20 sixgill sharks being caught as bycatch sixty miles west of Padstow, Cornwall in a depth of approximately 200 feet. The catch occurred in early August and the net caught sixgills had been feeding off a porbeagle which had earlier become caught in the same net. The porbeagle had bite marks and one of the sixgills regurgitated a chunk of porbeagle when on deck.
