Red Sea Shark Attack Death (02-06-09)

Marsa Alan - A 50 year old French woman was attacked by an Oceanic Whitetip when snorkelling/free diving in the Red Sea. There is considerable evidence that shark feeding had been occuring in the area of the attack. SCS feels that shark feeding for reasons of eco-tourism, particularly when in water interaction is taking place, cannot ever be totally safe and there is always the possibility of tragic accidents.
This attack which led to the woman's tragic death was not an isolated incident. SCS has received other reports from the same area of potentially dangerous Whitetip/human interactions.
